The BBC, who have some of the best programming in world, managed a maximum of 600 viewers per day, with a whopping maximum 13 minutes per month of media consumption during their 12-month trial.
So now they are seeking proposals for sending their programming over 3G.
Why? Surely the fact that less than 130 viewing hours were clocked up during the trial would suggest that nobody wants to watch mobile TV and they should give up. Isn’t that what trials are for?

The BBC reports that the GSMA finds that since the operators have dropped the prices of mobile internet, gosh, more people are using it more. Wow. I’d never have thought it.

I’ve just set up a direct debit payment for our TV license via the web. Translating that for non-UK residents, I’ve just set up a bank payment for the funding that goes to the BBC. And worth every penny in my view for the website and Dr Who alone.
Normally government and financial sites are awful. This one was superb - 9/10. One point off since it showed my initials and my Dr title concatenated.
Quick, efficient, forms that automatically move to the next field, just about everything you don’t expect. Keep it up!

Well done the BBC. Finally tried out iPlayer, and we ended up watching the new Dr Who episode in its entirety streaming over wifi, full screen. No pauses, no jumps, none of the usual streaming media experience. The only problem was that the sound lagged the image very slightly, which was irritating but not enough to damage the experience. We’d had the same problem watching Expendable! on YouTube so it may even be something on the laptop or Vista.
And Dr Who was good too. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like Catherine Tate as I found her annoying in The Runaway Bride, but she was excellent in this one. I particularly like her permanent indignation. And the Rose reference at the end was cool too. David Tenant was superb as usual.

The BBC News site has a broken redirection on it, according to Firefox. Not seen that message before, but I feel sorry for whoever is currently desperately trying to fix it. You can see a screen shot here.
Update: it’s fixed now, a few minutes later. I’m glad I took the screenshot in time!
