Dr Richard M Marshall

I've always liked to build things. Since I outgrew Lego I've been building software, development teams and most recently companies.

I'm Founder and CTO of Rapid Mobile Media Ltd in Edinburgh, Scotland. We founded the company in February 2004. We mobilise applications, but are now focussing on Ad360 Mobile Advertising Platform.

I like to think of us as creating mobile applications that people actually use, but we go much deeper than that.

This blog, however, is much more about my observations on the last frontier, the world of mobile technology. And anything else that crosses my path.

Ancient History

Here’s a picture of me when I was student in about 1982.

The computer is an Edinburgh University Computer Science Department APM (”Advanced Personal Machine”) with a Visual 200 VDU and a, wonders of wonders, a graphics framestore!

There’s vastly more compute power and memory on my N95 than on those machines. How far we’ve gone in such a short time.

Hey Richard, stumbled across your blog today - you should post it to ed-comp-hist and let the guys know.

I believe we may have located the source of RED if you’re interested. I think it is on the APM archive CDs that John Butler has stored at Edinburgh. I’ld like to get a copy to add to the history group archives, and maybe even resurrect it to run on Intel (either using Andy’s Imp77 compiler, or my Imp to C translator). You interested? Drop me a line, you know my address.
