Dr Richard M Marshall

I've always liked to build things. Since I outgrew Lego I've been building software, development teams and most recently companies.

I'm Founder and CTO of Rapid Mobile Media Ltd in Edinburgh, Scotland. We founded the company in February 2004. We mobilise applications, but are now focussing on Ad360 Mobile Advertising Platform.

I like to think of us as creating mobile applications that people actually use, but we go much deeper than that.

This blog, however, is much more about my observations on the last frontier, the world of mobile technology. And anything else that crosses my path.

No Change

Still no home internet connectivity… it is quite a handicap when trying to sort out having moved house!

The story so far is that the original approval seemed to have been aborted by BT as the previous provider had not cleared the line. My ISP (the normally reliable A&A) failed to pick this up and have been dithering with it until yesterday. I’m told that BT have no cancelled the existing connection and will provision mine. But this whole process takes ten working days! How on earth can it take ten days for a couple of database entries to be changed? Sheesh.

Going by the phone companies and the banks (and indeed a lot of other common industries…) you’d think databases worked in the realm of days rather than milliseconds… Then again, given the computer systems used by a lot of banks and phone companies (and others), it may well take days!
